Hardware Repairs

It is worth noting that most computer faults do not require any parts to repair. However, if they do, it’s not the end of the world. Despite common belief, individual computer components are not very expensive.

All parts supplied are brand new and fully guaranteed.

Typical examples of faulty hardware are:

Noisy/rattling Fans (when it finally fails components will overheat and burn out) Excessive ‘grinding’ sound from hard drive. (back up your data!!) Dead computer (wont power on at all) CD drive not recognised or wont read discs.

Hardware Upgrades

When your pc is starting to age a bit, it could probably use upgrades to keep up with new software and games. Annoyingly though, new computers tend to be easier to upgrade than old computers. This is determined by the availability of suitable parts.

The Paisley PC Doctor can easily identify upgrade potential after a few simple checks to your system.

Very often, I am asked to upgrade memory in the customers PC. This is usually because their computer has been running slow. Upgrading the memory is usually a great way to boost performance, even in a brand new computer (a lot of manufacturers sell computers with inadequate memory). BUT - Before I perform this upgrade, I give the PC a look over to make sure it isn’t a waste of money. Usually, computers have slowed down for other reasons that are easily resolved in a standard service (see service section below).

Typical examples of upgrades are:

-Memory upgrades
-New Graphics card
-Install DVD writer

Virus/Spyware Removal

Virus and spyware are ANNOYING!! No doubt about that. They slow down your computer and internet connection, cause all sorts of random faults and gremlins. These problems, however, can be fixed, controlled and even prevented.

If your PC is infected with these- your best option is to get your PC serviced (see service section below).

PC Service

This is the most common call The Paisley PC Doctor gets. The computer is slow, internet access is erratic at best, annoying pop-ups, crashing etc. Basically, the computer has become unusable because of a build up of spyware, adware, and viruses.

Again- your not alone, this is incredibly common and The Paisley PC Doctor has a great deal of experience in dealing with it. Initially the computer needs cleaned up, then good quality antivirus and anti-spyware software is installed to prevent reinfection. The difference in performance before and after a service can be very dramatic!! Well worth getting done and you can save that cash you were gonna spend on a new computer.

Health/security Check

This service is sadly under-utilised. Prevention is better than cure!

For a small fee, the Paisley PC Doctor can check over your system and inform you of vulnerabilities that exist (and will of course fix them!). This involves the installation of antivirus and antispyware software where necessary. Simple tips for keeping your PC clean will also be given.

Internet

We all love the internet and we certainly miss it when it’s not working!

From installing your new internet kit, to getting you connected when it has gone wrong. It’s usually a simple task to get you back up and running.

For sharing the internet with several computers (including laptops), see the networking section below.

Networks

Networks can be simple (two computers sharing the broadband connection), or complex (dozens of connected computers and servers).

The paisley PC Doctor can set up to suit your needs, or repair your existing setup.

Networks can be wired or wireless and are great for sharing Broadband, Printers and files between computers.

Setting up a home wireless network to share internet connections is a common request.
